Our patients come to us because they know that we take great pride in meeting their needs: whether they are children, teens, or adults. We work very closely with your family dentist so we can better provide the treatment that is best for you. Orthodontic treatment can vary widely as we feel it is important to consider such factors as age, position of the teeth, jaw structure and facial esthetics. One person might need a single tooth realigned, while another might require a two year plan to promote harmonious jaw growth. In severe cases, tooth alignment along with possible surgery may be necessary in order to achieve a correct occlusion.
Our practice uses a variety of treatment approaches, including removable, retainer-like appliances, traditional braces that are either stainless steel, gold, or clear porcelain, and the newest technology, "Invisalign."
While orthodontics is practiced by many, few are "board certified". Board certification indicates that, following the 5 year eligibility period, the specialist passed a rigorous examination in which actual orthodontic cases were evaluated by an expert panel of fellow orthodontists. Dr. Burkland became board certified in 1978 and has become well known and respected by his peers worldwide. Dr. Burkland makes certain that treatment is aimed at long term perfection. Teeth straightened too quickly are prone to shift out of alignment after a few years, and dental roots may be damaged. Dr. Burkland has the advantage of a first-class education, studying under the guidance of the nation`s leading clinicians and researchers.Dr. Burkland graduated first in his class from the University Of Pennsylvania Dental School before receiving his certificate in orthodontics from Harvard University. He subsequently taught at both institutions and just came back from teaching the staff of Temple University School of Orthodontics.
